Mark Gurman dropped a bit of a bombshell, highlighting 2027 as Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL | AAPL Price Prediction) “biggest product year” ever, and he’s most definitely not wrong. The product pipeline is packed, and perhaps there is no better setup for incoming top boss John Ternus as he takes the reins from CEO Tim Cook this September, right ahead of the biggest product unveiling of the year for Apple.
Of course, just because 2027 promises to be a massive product year for Apple doesn’t mean its latest and greatest gadgets are going to fly off the shelves. Indeed, there’s a lot riding on the line with Siri AI, a profound innovation that might finally deliver on Apple’s intelligence promises.
Siri AI is seriously impressive. That bodes well for the looming product slate
While we’re still a few months away from iOS 27 and the launch of Siri AI, the early beta version is out, and the reception has been quite positive from those (most notably developers) who’ve gotten their hands on it. Indeed, personal context is where Siri AI really shines. It’s a massive time saver for those who would have otherwise had to dig through files, apps, and emails just to get to something specific.
On-screen awareness was also praised, as was the conversational flow. Indeed, gone are the days when Siri sounds like a robot. Despite the applause for a number of AI features, though, not everything has been taken well. Most notably, some bugs still need to be squashed (it is an early beta, after all), and the most advanced features require a whopping 12GB worth of RAM.
You’ll need the latest iPhone to unlock the best of Siri AI. But, in my view, that itself is a feature rather than a bug, as I’ve noted in a previous piece highlighting backlash surrounding the higher device requirements to run all that Siri AI has to offer. As Apple takes the next few months to polish off the edges, I do think that Siri AI delivers, and it might be one of the biggest device upgrade drivers going into year’s end and into 2027.
Now, back to Gurman and the 2027 product slate. It’s packed. Come early 2027, there’s going to be a wider selection of iPhones (a new iPhone Air that’s rumored to have two cameras), the much-awaited foldable (the iPhone Ultra), the iPhone 18 Pro, and, of course, a more affordable iPhone 18e. For those looking to upgrade to Siri AI, there’s no shortage of options.
It’s a massive year for the iPhone and there’s supercycle potential
Later in the year, the iPhone 20 Pro kicks off, and it might be the anniversary device that has a radical new design. Any way you look at it, 2027 could be a supercycle year for Apple as strength from the fourth quarter of 2026 looks to accelerate in a big-time way through 2027. Beyond the stacked iPhone lineup for next year, though, Apple is also kicking off new AirPods (the ones with cameras), Apple Glasses (could this be a surprise hit?), and that long-rumored desktop robot.
It looks like a grand slam home run for Apple, but there is one small problem: DRAM and storage prices. The company is going to need to raise prices. With the AI-driven inflation, “memflation,” growing out of control enough for Tim Cook to call it a “100-year flood,” questions linger as to whether the 2027 product party will be spoiled by higher prices for DRAM and NAND.
It’ll be a pivotal year where we get a better grasp of just how much pricing power Apple has. In my humble opinion, I think that there’s never been a better time to upgrade, despite DRAM-related costs and the 12GB requirement for the best of what Siri AI has to offer.
The bottom line
When you consider the slate of devices and the fact that Apple’s finally catching up in the AI race, I think the extra $200 or however much the “AI-driven DRAM tax” won’t deter most customers from punching their ticket to Apple’s AI era.
For those who won’t go down the Pro route, perhaps the iPhone 18e is a fantastic compromise for those on a budget. The compromises for the lower price tag and ability to run Siri AI might make the product a surprise hit, especially if it includes 12GB of RAM.
If Apple gets its pricing right, not even memflation can derail the firm. In my view, AI is a net positive in 2027. And as DRAM prices normalized going into the back half of 2027 and into 2028, perhaps Apple might be in for margin relief.
